Tiger Summer Notes!
Principal Message
It’s hard to believe how quickly summer has flown by. We’re excited to kick off the 2025–2026 school year! Our amazing staff has been hard at work preparing for a great year, attending professional development, collaborating, and aligning our efforts with the D105 Strategic Plan to ensure an engaging and supportive learning experience for all students.
I’m genuinely looking forward to serving our students, staff, families, and the entire Gurrie community. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out via ParentSquare or by email at lmendoza@d105.net. Once the school year begins, you will receive weekly updates via ParentSquare, sharing what is happening at Gurrie, as well as essential information. Our website also has important information.
Our doors are open! We are currently open until noon. Starting August 4, we will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Our wonderful administrative assistants, Ms. Fulgencio and Mrs. Swicionis, are here and happy to assist with anything you may need before the school year begins.
Roaring into the new year,
Lorena Mendoza

We are READERS at Gurrie!
Incoming 7th- and 8th-grade students must read one book from the Summer Reading list before the start of the school year. In the first few weeks of school, ELA teachers will utilize the books to support their lessons.
Books may be accessed by:
Visiting Gurrie’s Open Library hours to check out a book from Gurrie LLC
Place a hold on a copy from a public library
Purchase a book from a local bookstore or Amazon
Importance of Attendance
Attendance matters! Research indicates that students who attend school regularly are more likely to succeed academically, remain engaged, and form strong social connections. Missing just one day a month can add up and affect learning over time. At Gurrie, we recognize the power of showing up. Students who maintain a 95% attendance rate over their two years earn a special blue and gold cord to wear proudly at graduation. Let’s work together to make every day count!
Get Involved and Make the Most of Your Time at Gurrie!
Extracurricular activities are an excellent way for students to explore their interests, build friendships, and develop valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership, and time management. Students who participate in clubs, sports, music, or other extracurricular activities tend to have stronger connections to their school and achieve higher academic success levels.
At Gurrie, we offer a wide range of opportunities; there’s something for everyone! Whether it’s athletics, visual and performing arts, STEM, service clubs, or leadership groups, we encourage every student to get involved and try something new. Participating in just one activity can make a significant difference. We can’t wait to see where your students' interests take you! Remember, we have a late bus that leaves Gurrie at 4 pm and accommodates most activities.
